# What You'll Need:

→ Bread Base

01 - 2 slices crusty bread, such as baguette, country loaf, or thick-cut sandwich loaf

→ Cheese & Topping

02 - 1 cup (approx. 100g) cheddar cheese, shredded
03 - 1–2 fresh jalapeños, thinly sliced, or an equivalent amount of pickled jalapeños

→ Enhancements

04 - 1 teaspoon unsalted butter (optional, for toasting)
05 - Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
06 - Hot sauce or sour cream, to serve (optional)

# Steps To Follow:

01 - If extra crispiness is desired, spread a thin layer of unsalted butter on one side of each bread slice.
02 - Toast the bread in a preheated skillet or oven at 180°C for 3 to 5 minutes, until golden brown on one side.
03 - Flip the bread (if using a skillet) and evenly scatter shredded cheddar cheese over the toasted side.
04 - Arrange thinly sliced jalapeños over the cheese layer.
05 - Cover the skillet and heat for 2 to 3 minutes until the cheese melts, or broil in the oven for 5 to 7 minutes until bubbly and golden.
06 - Season with freshly ground black pepper. Serve immediately with hot sauce or sour cream, if desired.

# Notes and Tips:

01 - For enhanced smokiness, roast jalapeños before placing them on the cheese.
